Cillian Murphy‘s decades-long partnership with Christopher Nolan reached an all-new peak with “Oppenheimer,” his first main role in a Nolan film that earned him the highest praise of his career and Oscar buzz for best actor. Murphy previously appeared in three Batman films, including “Inception” and “Interstellar.” When recently asked by The Independent whether there were any Nolan films that he wishes he could have starred in but didn’t, Murphy settled on the director’s 2014 space epic “Interstellar.”
Murphy stated,
“I adore ‘Interstellar’ just because I find it so emotional, I remember seeing it in the cinema when I had little kids. It just had a big impact on me. It broke my heart. I love watching his films when I’m not in them because you don’t have to freak out about the size of your ears, or whatever.”

Murphy emphasized that Nolan picked the “right people” for “Interstellar,” so he has no ill feelings over missing out. Matthew McConaughey plays an ex-NASA pilot in this epic who is recruited on a mission to find a new planet outside the solar system that can support human life. The film also included Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn, Matt Damon, and Michael Caine in supporting roles.
Murphy was also asked by The Independent which Nolan film he would pair with “Oppenheimer” for a double feature.
He shared,
“You could go ‘Interstellar,’ which is very… explores similar scientific, physic themes. Or you could watch ‘Dunkirk,’ which is also set in World War II, Dunkirk’ is shorter, so that might be a good match ‘cause it’s like an hour-and-a-half, and then you can go into [‘Oppenheimer’].”
Despite being a three-hour-long talky biographical drama rated R, “Oppenheimer” has already exceeded the lifetime domestic box office totals of “Interstellar” and “Dunkirk.” The movie has grossed $264 million in the United States and Canada, while its global gross is in line to cross $650 million. “Oppenheimer” is currently playing in cinemas across the country.
The release of Oppenheimer sparked a lot of debate surrounding nuclear weapons and Artificial Intelligence; check out a recent news article about the biographer who endorsed a US Bill to Bar AI Use in Nuclear Launches.
