Summer isn’t so terrible after all, as Taylor Swift becomes the first female artist in Spotify history to surpass 100 million monthly listeners.
The music streaming platform broke the news via Spotify’s social pages on Tuesday, stating: “Queen behavior. On August 29th, Taylor Swift became the first female artist in Spotify history to reach 100 million monthly listeners.” @Spotify shared a dazzling photo of the famed artist to accompany the tweet’s caption:

The Weeknd has more than 110 million monthly listeners on the app, currently occupying the No. 1 spot. In February, he surpassed 100 million subscribers, setting the Spotify record. Bad Bunny finishes in third with 80 million, followed by Ed Sheeran with 77 million.
The news comes after Swift released her third re-recorded album, 1989, in July, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).” With 716,000 album-equivalent units, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version),” meanwhile, earned Swift the distinction of being the first woman to have four albums simultaneously rank in the top 10 of Billboard’s album chart, making her only the third artist in history to do so.
Swift announced the release of her “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” project on the final leg of her U.S. Eras Tour at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium. Fans were not surprised by the reveal, since the artist had left a trail of Easter eggs confirming the re-recorded album’s Oct. 27 release date.
“So now, here we are on the last night of the U.S. leg of the Eras Tour, in the eighth month of the year, and the ninth day,” Swift teased her fans. “Notice there’s some new outfits in the show,” She mentioned the myriad of subtle signals she had been dropping.
“There’s something that I’ve been planning for a really, really, really, ridiculously embarrassingly long time. And I think instead of just like telling you about it, I think I’ll just sort of show you something I’ve been excited to show you,” Swift told the audience as the cover art for “1989” appeared on the big screen behind her.
Swift’s Eras Tour will continue internationally through the fall of 2024, with the megastar recently confirming the addition of 15 new North American dates.
